Maybe you noticed. This morning there was a cool crispness in the air we Pacific Northwesterners haven’t felt for awhile. What is nice is as temperatures drop a bit, we usually have perfect weather for completing home projects. Below, I have listed some house projects that can still be accomplished before we move deep into Fall. And remember, Hardline Design and Construction can be there to help.

Exterior Paint Projects: September and early October tend to be warm and dry so now still is a good time to paint the outside of your house, outbuildings or fences.

Outdoor Spaces Projects: Fall offers some of our best outdoor weather and wouldn’t we like to take in ever last moment before the rains come. Consider adding a small outdoor room to enjoy the great outdoors even on our cool, misty days.

What may be a tiny 15 by 7 foot room and porch wins big on charm and style. To the left is a covered porch with a bench for afternoon reading and to the right (visible in the picture) is an outdoor room for afternoon naps or hot summer nights.

Kitchen Remodel: With all the cooking and baking many of us do during the holidays, why not spend some time sprucing up your kitchen space. No matter your budget, there are options for making your kitchen feel warmer and more inviting. Try installing new countertops, refacing your cabinets, or adding a kitchen island to create more workspace. Projects don’t always need to be grand on scale but we can help make your space grand in terms of workability and comfort for you.

Taylor basement remodel by Hardline Design and Construction in Portland Oregon.

Hardline Design and Construction completed this kitchen addition to a basement ADU this summer. Adam restored the original, water damaged, fir doors to reveal their beautiful grain. This saved the clients money but also retained the charm of clear, vertical grain fir.

Fireplace Remodel: I grew up in Los Angeles. The funny thing is I vividly remember my grandpa always stoking the fire on sunny Southern California winter’s days (I guess that 60 degree weather was too cold for us). Even so, these are happy memories. Using your fireplace creates warmth, and encourages family to gather around it. To get your fireplace show-ready for winter, create a custom mantle, add a new coat of paint or maybe install tile around your fireplace and hearth that will reflect your home’s vintage or your personality.

Complete a yearly Fall Home Maintenance Checklist: With all the workings that go on in a home, it is easy to forget to check of parts of your home for years at a time, giving water, bugs, or electrical concerns an opportunity to become full-fledged problems. This list by Old House Journal is extensive. Good maintenance practices will not only help you save money but help keep you and your family safe.
